Have you ever felt like a boss while walking down the street?

When I walked out of Mandy Dyonne’s runway coach class I felt like a boss.

A few months ago I was scrolling through Facebook, just looking around and watching funny videos, when I stumbled upon an ad for Mandy Dyonne’s runway coach class. Maybe it was a sign from God or maybe it was just Facebook getting better at their advertising targeting… but when I saw the ad, I took it as a sign and messaged her.

And I’m so glad I did!

I had the BEST time in her group class. She taught us how to walk on the runway for a fashion show. She showed us different tips and tricks to mastering the perfect walk. Her class was really eye opening. I learned a lot about my posture, how I should walk and how I should stand.

When I got there, I had no clue what to expect. I had never been to an international runway coach class before. But when I first met Mandy, she was so friendly and fun that I instantly felt at ease. Throughout the whole class she was really encouraging. It can be a bit nerve-racking to just walk in front of others while they are staring at how you walk. Mandy made me feel comfortable and guided me. There were even times that she would even walk with me so that I could follow her example.

My arms were bound behind my back with a cable cord to help me focus on my walk.

The craziest part was when Mandy bound my arms behind my back with a cable cord! She pointed out that in order to perfect my walk, both of my arms need to be swinging back and forth. The cable cord was to help me become more aware of my arms. Apparently I am so used to carrying a purse on one shoulder that only one of my arms swing back and forth when I walk! Even when I’m not carrying a purse, one arm is swinging back and forth while the other one is like a dead pancake. I’ve never noticed that before! Now when I walk, I’m completely aware of where my arms are and if they are swinging or not!

Now I practice my walk EVERYWHERE! In the hallway, walking down the street… even on the NYC subway platform!

I found it extremely heartwarming to see how much she cared about me and the other students in her class. I am so happy that I was able to be part of such a fabulous experience. Thank you so much Mandy!

Model Rebecca Sorkin

REVENGE The Fashion Magazine

“God grant me the serenity to accept the things I can not change, the courage to change the things I can and the wisdom to know the difference.” – Karl Paul Reinhold Niebuhr

Meet Rebecca:

I met model Rebecca Sorkin behind the scenes at the Couture Fashion Week show back in February. I remember standing in the makeup room completely mesmerized by how talented the makeup artists were. Rebecca was given bright pink lips with dark eyebrows which complimented her exotic flower hair piece.

Did you know that Rebecca has modeled since she was only 6 years old!? She shared with me that when she was 6-10 years old she modeled for commercials, movies and TV shows. Now, she models for print work, catalogs and runway shows.

Her top 3 long-term goals are:

  1. Modeling:
    • Work with more well-known brands, traveling and meet more designers & models.
  2. Personally:
    • Speak 3 languages. Right now she speaks both English and Russian. She wants to learn Spanish.
  3. Academically:
    •  Go to a 4 year college and then get her Master’s Degree. Right now she is thinking of studying business psychology.

Rebecca’s style is a mix between sophisticated, feminine, street style and of course sporty. After all, she is a cheerleader! Her go to outfit is a bodysuit, ripped jeans and a cardigan. She’s very into wearing highlighter and a cute winged eyeliner. She recommends using Tarte Cosmetics and Benefit makeup.

Rebecca loves to learn; She is obsessed with psychology. She likes connecting life with the real world and connecting the mind with the spirit. [Speaking of spirit, did I mention that she’s a cheerleader?!]

Rebecca is a girl who is comfortable in her own skin. She is confident and she’s fit. She likes working out at home. Her secret? Knee to elbow crunches and Russian twists!

She loves taking a drive & eating out with her friends. She also loves hanging out in Manhattan and on the beach.

If she could be a fruit or vegetable, she would be an avocado since it’s sweet, flavorful and bright on the inside. You can’t match its flavor or tell what it is like on the inside.

Fun Facts about Rebecca:

#1: Her favorite Disney princess is Snow White.

#2: She’s finished all of Shameless and absolutely adores Modern Family.

#3: Back in sleep away camp, she used to love rope climbing and hiking in the woods.

Rebecca has modeled for New York Fashion Week’s Couture Fashion Week and for Project Runway’s Irena Shabayzea.

Glamour Magazine’s Lauren Chan Made Her Dream Come True

You’ll never guess who came to my blogging class! Lauren Chan, the Fashion Features Editor for GLAMOUR MAGAZINE! Not only does she work for Glamour Magazine, she is also a former plus-size model! I was so excited to meet her! I love how lively and down to earth she is. She just tells it as it is. When she mentioned to the class that magazines can look at different blogs for content, it really opened my eyes to how important blogging is.

Back in March, I decided to take a blogging class at FIT so that I could work on my blogging skills and meet other bloggers. I figured that it would be a great experience and I just wanted to surround myself with people also starting their own blogs. I never thought that we’d have a guest speaker from Glamour Magazine, let alone a former model.

I love that.

A lot of the models that I interview for New Style Modé have so many different interests. I’m so glad that Lauren is able to use her experience as a plus-size model and follow her dreams to write for fashion. Believe it or not Lauren actually writes about trendy plus-size fashion, models and body diversity! You go girl!

I decided to do a little bit of homework and read some of Lauren’s articles. Personally, I loved her article about the interview she had with supermodel & plus-size model Ashley Graham. It was a great interview where they talked about Ashley’s experience as a plus-size model and some of the challenges she faced. What spoke to me the most was that even though Ashley faced a lot of obstacles, she didn’t give up…she still pushed forward and followed her dreams. I won’t go into too much detail about the interview but if you’re interested, you should definitely read it. Please note that some of the content in the article is a bit mature. [Click here for the link to the article.]

It might be cliché to say but keep follow your dreams. Just look at Lauren. She started off as a plus-size model for Ford Models, she kept working on her dreams and now she is an editor at Glamour Magazine.

What are your dreams? Are you still following them? Tell me about them in the comments below! I’d love to hear them. 🙂

Designer Glasses for the Fashionista

1f4ee99dd6ad2819c10d17029db8a78b--tattoo-ideas-tattoo-designs[1].jpg

I’m so excited because I just picked out my new pair of designer eyeglasses! While I usually wear contact lenses, sometimes I like to spice things up and wear glasses as an accessory. I can just throw on a pair of chic glasses and have a whole new look. Sometimes it’s difficult for me to find a pair of glasses that I LOVE.

Picking the right glasses that match my face isn’t always easy. I always have to look at the shape, size and color of the frame. When I was in the store, I tried on all different types of glasses. I tried on these teeny tiny pair of glasses which looking back, I’m not sure how people can see out of the lenses. I then decided to try on a pair of HUGE glasses which practically swallowed my face. Honestly, it looked like I was a bobble head!

I felt spontaneous and tried on a pair of sports glasses just for fun. I could not stop laughing at how funny I looked. Could you imagine showing up to fashion interviews with a pair of sports glasses strapped onto my face?? In order to stand out and be bold, I tried on a few pair of neon glasses. When I looked in the mirror, I couldn’t even take myself seriously! Not to mention that I saw a neon color rimming my vision – I felt like I was looking through a pair of neon binoculars.

Even if it takes a million hours, my advice is: don’t settle. Picking the right glasses is important because they’re the first thing people see when they look at your face. One of my tricks is wearing my contact lenses while I am trying on different frames so that I can actually see how I look. The worst thing is not being able to see yourself in the mirror because you need your glasses to help you see. I also recommend taking a friend or family member with you and asking them for their advice. Not only did I take my dad with me, but I also asked other customers in the store as to what they thought. At one point, I had a crowd of people surrounding me as I was deciding between my final 3 pairs of glasses.

Salvatore-Ferragamo-SF2777-500[1].jpg
I decided to go with the Salvatore Ferrangamo SF 2777

After trying on almost every single pair, I finally decided to go with a designer pair of glasses from Salvatore Ferragamo. Their purple frame compliments the beautiful flowers and cute cheetah print on each of the arms. I think they are the perfect pair and when I wear them, it just screams NEW YORK FASHION BLOGGER. Overall, it took about 4 hours to decide. I can’t say for sure but I think my dad was extremely happy when we finally left the glasses store.

Do you have any pair of glasses that you absolutely love? Tell me about them in the comments below!
